As a tech architect, there are days when I am jumping 20 different teams and my brain is all over the place; I used to feel exhausted within a short time. I realised that cognitive overload is a real thing when we try to process to much information at one time, we are not really creating ; we are just surviving;
When I tune in deeply, my brain is not overthinking; ideas flow naturally. TI started training myself to activate flow using the 6 step process and then I just focus on one project for at least 60 minute before I take a break;
This change from trying to focus on 20 different team chats, discussing 20 different topics in ten minutes to just focusing on one project for a 60 mins window helped me to tune into flow state and create meaningful work.
Working in flow is an intensive process; your body, brain, emotions, self works together in perfect alignment for the creativity to flow. When we don’t prepare ourselves properly, then we get ourselves caught into procrastinating, switching between tasks, not finishing any one task thoroughly, zero creativity and feeling exhausted doing everything everybody else wants you to do .
Here is a quick 10 minute preparation you ca do before starting your project
2 mins – Move your body intentionally
Stretch, shake or flow through gentle movements.
This releases tension and awakens body awareness.
2 mins – sync brain hemispheres
Try cross-crawl, hand-eye drills or alternate nostril breath.
This boosts clarity, focus and mental agility.
2 mins – breathe through your heart
Inhale for 5, exhale for 5 with gratitude.
This regulates your emotional state and grounds your attention.
2 mins – flow through your spine
Cat-Cow, spinal waves or breath-led movement.
This stimulates energy and focus from the inside out.
1 min – feel elevated emotions
Recall a moment of joy, awe or love.
This unlocks creativity, confidence and flow chemistry.
1 mins – connect with stillness
Close your eyes and observe the breath. No control, just stillness.
This quiets mental noise and sharpens presence.
Give this a try before starting your next work session!
